Children and Adolescents2021-11-05T12:01:18-08:00

I have many years of experience working with children and adolescents and find that I have a unique passion for supporting this population. I am particularly influenced by the work of Daniel Siegel, M.D. who combines concepts of attachment theory and neuroscience to better understand a child’s developing mind, from tantrums to power struggles and everything in between. Understanding your child’s growing brain will help you parent from a more compassionate and competent perspective. My work with parents is also informed by the Hand in Hand Parenting approach which focuses on “helping parents remain warm, engaged and connected while setting the limits their children need.”

The “tween” and adolescent years can be a challenging developmental period. Teens are often bombarded with peer pressure, academic pressure, family expectations, all while trying to develop their self-identity. This period of development is typically characterized by a preoccupation with peer influence and pushing away from family. This dynamic coupled with our own fears, insecurities, hopes and dreams for our children lend itself to heightened emotions and reactivity. The goal to maintain a healthy connection to our children while encouraging independence and self-growth can be tricky. Together we can work on strengthening the relationship between you and your teen while increasing your confidence in navigating this unpredictable terrain.
